IC
Name: Liam Irving
Nicknames: none.
Position: Junior
Age: 16
Birthday: March 13
Height: 5’11’’
Weight: 150
Hair Colour: Blond
Eye Colour: Blue
Marks: Scars on the inside of each wrist, scar from having his appendix removed at 12, knuckles are pretty scarred from fighting/hitting things.

Appearance:
Liam tends to look a bit unhealthy. He’s pale and skinner than your average sixteen year old. He never really has much of an appetite. All in all, Liam is pretty unremarkable, which he likes. He considers himself to be average. No someone you’d want to take a second look at.

The one remarkable thing about his appearance is that he’s always wearing long sleeves. Even in the summer, he wears light long sleeved t-shirts, and even to bed, he wears one. Other than that, his sense of dress is about as average as everything else about him. Just jeans, Converse sneakers and the long sleeve shirts.

Psychic Ability: Empathy
Expanded Abilities: Liam picks up well on other people’s emotions. He is best at this when he is looking at the person. However, he has picked up strong emotions from people in the apartment next to his. The stronger the emotion, the easier Liam feels it.
Limitations: Liam has a lot of trouble distinguishing between other people’s emotions and his own. This has lead to a lot of emotional ups and down with him. And he always fears that the emotions he’s feeling are not his own.
Personality: Liam is a pretty shy individual. He’s not one to start a conversation, but if someone talks to him he’s willing to keep the conversation going, as long as the conversation strays away from topics that freak him out. To call him a quiet kid would be an understatement. However, despite any social issues he might have, Liam, like everyone else, longs for friendship. It’s just hard for him to make friends, worrying that he’s betraying them somehow, by knowing what they’re thinking. He is a bit of people pleaser, always wanting to do what will make other people happy with him. Above all else, Liam is a caring person, and hates to see other suffer.

Strengths: When he can concentrate on it, Liam is a good test taker and a good student in general. He has a good memory, and a good eye for detail. Despite being a pacifist (or trying to be one, before anger takes over), Liam is pretty brave, and not afraid of being hurt.
Weaknesses: Liam has extreme trouble focusing at times, when other emotions are strong. This is not helpful in intense situations and even when other kids are stressed out about finals. Liam often feels other people’s emotions, and so he’s not very much help when it comes to breaking up fights, and sometimes escalates them with his own anger.
Likes: the color green, music, his Ipod, art (it’s like therapy for him), reading, sleeping.
Dislikes: nightmares, feeling depressed, worrying about the source of his feelings (are they really his?), people thinking he’s insane, gumi worms, and peas.

History:
The first few years of Liam’s life were pretty normal. His father had left shortly before Liam turned four, but his mother, Caroline, did her best and the majority of Liam’s childhood was happy. He was a good student that had some trouble making friends, but not everyone is great at it, and his mother didn’t worry. Liam was just a shy kid.

Things started changing, however, when Liam was twelve. First, his mother met a man, Martin. The relationship quickly turned serious. Liam’s appendix ruptured a week before their wedding. For the first few days, Liam was very sick. The doctors weren’t even sure if he’d make it. But Liam did, and his mother and Martin were married on schedule, minus Liam who was still in the hospital. It was Liam who told his mother to go ahead with the wedding and not lose the money they had spent on it, but Martin always claimed that Liam’s illness ruined the wedding.

At first, it seemed that Liam’s behavioral changes were the result of the wedding and Martin moving in. The two often fought. Liam tried not to start the fights, but when Martin started screaming, Liam screamed right back. It was the same at school. Liam was rarely the instigator, but when things got heated, Liam didn’t break down. Not even when the other kids were bigger or stronger.

His school tried to intervene, to help figure out why Liam was having so much trouble getting along with everyone else since it was just a sharp turn from the boy Liam was only a few years prior. Liam’s emotions were all over the place, to the point where the school psychiatrist was baffled. Liam earned himself two expulsions from schools for fighting, and his mother was forced to pay for private schools, when no one else would take Liam.

This went on for three years before it got really bad. Liam started to feel heavily depressed every time he was in his apartment. Not even Martin fighting with him could pull him up from the completely low feeling. In fact, his step-father’s anger just made it worse. Liam didn’t know it, but the man in the apartment next to his, who’s bedroom was on the other side of Liam’s bedroom wall, was a clinically depressed man.

Six weeks ago, Liam put a razor blade to his wrists and cut. He could not take the complete and utter despair anymore. His first bout of luck was that Martin found him in time. Liam woke up in a hospital, and was quickly transferred to a mental hospital that specialized in young adults. His doctors were at as much of a loss as any other psychiatrist Liam saw. Their best solution was medication. Heavy, medication. Liam was more miserable at the hospital than at home, but they had him on suicide watch and he could not do anything harmful to himself to end it. The medication made him feel heavy and sleepy, but Liam had resigned himself to a life of medication and misery, when a nurse noticed something.

Any time Liam was in a room with agitated people, he himself became agitated. As long as everyone else was calm, Liam remained calm. When they were laughing and happy, Liam laughed. When fights broke out, Liam threw himself into the middle of it. But he never seemed to be feeling things other people weren’t, in a crowd. The nurse, a woman named Mallory, was a student of parapsychology. She loved learning about different abilities, despite the fact that she had none herself. And she knew about Zener.

Mallory secretly met with Liam’s mother outside of the hospital. She couldn’t suggest what she was about to within the walls, or she risked loosing her job. She had a feeling most doctors wouldn’t agree to what she suggested: That Caroline pull her son out of the mental hospital and enroll him at The Zener School. Caroline was at the end of her rope. She took the nurse’s advice, and then watched Liam on visiting day. She saw what the nurse saw. Against her the advice of her husband and the doctors at the hospital, Caroline contacted Zener and told them about Liam.

Truthfully, Liam himself is pretty skeptical about it all. He knows something is off about him. He knows that most of the time, he doesn’t know why he’s feeling what he’s feeling, but he’s not sure if it’s due to the fact that he’s insane or some kind of psychic ability. He’s not even sure he believes in it. But the fact of the matter is, Liam doesn’t want to go back to the mental hospital, so he agreed to go to Zener. It can’t be worse than drooling in the corner of a hospital room.
